Legalization of Marijuana Use
Marijuana, also known as cannabis sativa is a psychoactive drug that tends to have
various effects on the body and brain of those who consume it. For a long time, the drug has
been used by people for recreational purposes. The drug is very common in the United States
with some states legalizing it for recreational or medical purposes whereas others have placed
bans or prohibition on the sale and use within their jurisdictions. Marijuana has been observed to
have many effects on human bodies that can affect their health. However, medical research also
ascertains that marijuana use can have positive medical outcomes especially when it is consumed
by individuals suffering from terminal illnesses such as AIDS and cancer. Marijuana legalization
has been one of the most hotly debated topic in many societies across the country. The aim of
this concept paper is to assess various sources that discuss marijuana use and whether it should
be legalized across the country or not.
According to the Center for Disease Control, marijuana use is highly addictive. It is
estimated that one in ten marijuana users become addicted to the drug. Addition to any drug is
observed to have many effects on the health and lifestyle of any individuals. Such addiction can
reduce the functioning of such individuals thereby reducing the quality of life that they lead
(Merino, 2016). There are several signs that could be used to assess whether one is addicted or
not. First, an individual tries to quit unsuccessfully. Secondly, such an individual may give up on
important activities such as school, work or family in favor of smoking marijuana....
