Theories in Nursing Practice
Introduction
Theories Attempt to formulate opinions about human existence and explain how each
concept and principle relate. Theories help people understand the current happening events and
predict future events. Metaparadigms are the chassis of theories in different fields. For a theory
to be valid, it is necessary to consider all metaparadigms identified in principle.
Theory
Theories are guides used to explain, understand and predict situations and events and also
challenge the existing knowledge about the subject matter. It is a systematic way of analyzing
behaviors and phenomena through interrelated concepts, propositions and definitions that
surround a situation (Homans, 2017). Theories direct the search for identifying why people do
and fail to do certain things. They also help gather the information needed to make an effective
strategy for intervening situations and provide an understanding of how to design a successful
program.
The purpose of theories is to name the observations and make concepts which explain the

they have seen and explained. Further, a theory explains what has been done in the past and
currently and also demonstrates how certain concepts work. There are two kinds of theories, Pure
and practical theory. The two theories must be incorporated together and all underlying
assumptions adjusted to achieve efficiency.
The nursing metaparadigm
