In July 1776 the second continental congress that was held in Pennsylvania declared that
the thirteen colonies were sovereign states and therefore were no longer the colonies of the
British. This declaration was made despite the continued war between the British masters and the
colonies. Most historians, therefore, regard this statement as the initial stapes towards the
formation of the United States of America. Representatives from the colonies signed the
declaration which stated that they were now sovereign states. This was as a result of the
American Revolution War that had lasted for a year.
The most memorable statement in the declaration can be confirmed by Anderson, (2016)
which states that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain
unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” most
