A Cloud, in computing, includes a set of hardware devices and software applications
working together to provide a service to the end user regardless of their location. Cloud services
are the services accessible from any device over a network, for example, the internet (Boutaba and
Da Fonseca 8). There are plenty of cloud services in this millennium, such as g-mail. This
application lets users send emails to each other. It is easily accessible to any user with a mobile
phone with an internet connection. Clouds are of two types; public and private. Public means
anyone can access them while private means that only certain individuals can access them. A
company can decide to rent cloud space or create their cloud. Presently companies are adopting
cloud services to allow their workers to work from wherever they are, or to back up data in case
of security threats.
From the diagram, some of the significant blocks offered as a cloud service include
authentication management which verifies if the user is who they present themselves to be,
authorization management which determines the type of information or resources the user can
access as stipulated by the company policies, data management and provisioning which provides
the data used to determine what kind of information the user can access, and monitoring and audit
which looks at whether the users conform to the set policies or not.
