Illegal immigration is an economic burden to America
A growing population of illegal immigrants and the federal government’s ineffective
efforts to safeguard the borders present significant public safety and national security threats to
the United States. Considering the severe negative impacts they cost the taxpayer both at the
local, state and national levels, and illegal immigrants cost the country billions of dollars every
year. Although some of them pay taxes, their contributions are quite insignificant to offset the
increasing financial burden imposed on the taxpayers. However, records show that the number of
immigrants entering the country has shown a significant drop over the recent years.

Despite a drop in illegal immigration into the country, Americans still believe that
immigration hurts their economy and the U.S. workers. They believe that immigrants take good
jobs away from Americans and fill roles for public assistance without paying the necessary taxes
to replenish the kitty. According to Borjas (2014), illegal immigration impacts the financial
stability of the American economy and the financial security of the legal residents. This is
because illegal immigrants reduce wages since most of them are underpaid which lowers the
wages in a certain region and occupation. When wages are lowered, American workers get hurt,
and the poor get hit the most. This way, they put the unnecessary financial burden on the federal
and local law enforcement agencies.

Americans, they tend to put a strain on the available resources of local school districts and other
facilities. Their arrival in the country creates a problem that is under the radar - usually a black
market for various goods and services. These markets do not benefit the country’s economy
because they are unregulated thus they cannot get taxed by the state or local government. Since
