(1) How much does it cost to run for office in Texas?
One of the major factors when it comes to campaigning is money, and it has counted as a
competitive advantage in many tightly contested races. Candidates have a history of spending a
huge amount of money on campaigns. However, despite the importance of money in campaigns,
outcomes are not directly proportional to the amount of money spent. For example, contestants in
the right party, and with great name recognition get to carry the day. In the last presidential
election for example, the now president of United States only spent about half of what his rival
Hillary Clinton spent, and still won the elections (Chris Essig).
To closely estimate the amount of money required for an election depends on various
factors. They include; name recognition, which office you are running for, and the number of
voters needed. According to Harold Cook who was a political consultant, a candidate will need
to raise a minimum of about twenty million dollars to run for the state of office in Texas. A
sentiment that is echoed by Ted Delisi, a republican campaign consultant (Samuels). Going by
