IMPACTS OF THE HEALTHCARE REFORMS ON THE NPs
Introduction
The healthcare reforms have helped many people to get health insurance coverage due to
the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Initially, affordable treatment to all was a challenge, and this
contributed to high mortality rates and critical chronic illnesses. Fortunately, there have been
significant changes through the health reforms in the provision of primary care. However, due to
the extensive coverage of affordable healthcare, there is a shortage of health physicians.
Currently, the primary care workforce is not in a position to meet the rising demand for quality
healthcare thus pushing the government to extend the roles of the Nurse Practitioners (NPs).
The healthcare reform is beneficial to the NPs
The government has taken the initiative of widening the scope of the NPs so that they can
match the expected demand of professionals in the health industry. Such initiatives have been
made possible through the health care reforms. My view is that the NPs contribution in patient
care is immeasurable and through the improvements, the practitioners can make better-informed
