Purpose:
To establish the guidelines for driving business competitors crazy
Quote: “The purpose of Competition is not to beat someone down, but to bring out the best in

Boom or boomlet is characterized by the desire for companies to drive the competitors crazy.
This takes place when the corporate goal of the company is no longer survival but rather
maximization. However, the desire to deal with competition can either stray a business or raise it
to higher heights (Kawasaki, 2011). Companies stray away when they focus more on beating the
competition and overlook taking care of the needs of their customers. However, the obsession of
excellence drives a company to greatness.
Procedure: The steps for avoiding the former and attaining the latter are outlined below:
Step 1: Understanding yourself
Before succeeding in driving the competitor crazy, the company has to understand what it stands
for. Else, the company will only succeed in driving itself crazy. For example, Apple represents
“cool technology” and can never stand for CIO’s service provider or supporter. If Apple resulted
to accomplishing the latter, it would only be successful in driving itself crazy (Tucker, 2002).
