Booker T. Washington. 2

Black Americans have been in the USA since the 17th century, when slave trade took the center
stage when the Africans were captured and shipped to the USA as slaves to provide labor in the
south where cotton plantations existed. At that time, they were considered as lesser people and a
lot of things was out of their reach due to their status. Racial comments, intimidation and
overexploitation were among the many things Africans were subjected to. However, elite
Africans started pushing for equity and freedom for their likes and the liberation battle begun.
This battle was witnessed by a number of casualties during a series of civil wars and persecution
of those leading in this fight against intimidation. The fighters didn’t relent and more emerged as
the others perished. Though the issues of racial injustices are still embraced by some white
Americans, most of them have embraced the dark skinned fellows in the modern America. A
series of events have given birth to the Modern America and a number of people have
participated. I will analyze Booker T. Washington because I think he was one of the best
personalities that ever participated in this development as well as the current status of the USA as
the superpower on earth.
Booker T. Washington was born in 1856 in Washington as a slave as his father was an unknown

furnace at an age of 10 years and later worked as a houseboy in a white family. As a houseboy,
he learned some important virtues such as cleanliness and developed good personal morals
which I believe might have contributed to modelling and/or sharpening his leadership qualities.
He attended school at the Hampton Institute, where he acquired industrial education. He died in
the year 1915 but his efforts did not go unnoticed to any keen historian as his achievements
defines a big part of the modern America.
