The Lewin and Kotter Change Models
Businesses go through delicate times especially during a disruption period that comes by
the implementation of new processes. Adjusting from old ways to new ones require time. Change
management systems curb the effects of the disruptions.
For Lewin, the change process encompasses the creation of the awareness that a change
is necessary, then moving towards the change and finally embracing, solidifying it as the norm.
He created three steps of implementing this. The first phase, unfreezing is priming the
organization for the change that is required. This relates to the Kotter model’s first step, establish
a sense of urgency, the second step comprises of creating a vision of change, and the last step is
to convey the vision.
