Impacts of Illegal Immigration in The Workplace
Various articles have been published and peer reviewed with regards to the cases of
illegal immigration and its impacts on the workplace. The issue of immigration at the workplace
is a multifaceted issue and touches on both organization work policy and various laws such as
the immigration laws and the employment regulations, both of which tend to operate in a parallel
manner, meaning that they do not rely on one another for policy making but are rather
independent. There are also ethical perspectives which represent the company’s appearance in
the public’s view and what its internal policies stand for with regards to the hiring of illegal
immigrants, or undocumented aliens. This paper reviews the literature on the matter of illegal
immigration and its implications for companies and the nation in terms of ethics and regulations
and how the problem can be measured and successfully solved.
Article Comparison and Review of The Literature
The first article to be reviewed is that of Ayon (2017), where the author elaborates on the
impact of state-level immigration on the Latino families (Ayon, 2017). The study involved 54
Latino families and evaluated their most prevalent fears with regards to employment and
regulation. It found that the immigrants were most affected by the fear of deportation, family
separation, and hostile work practices. From this study, it was evident that the immigrants are not
employed in accordance with the company policies for regular employees and this gives room
for exploitation and abuse. This research is supported by the article written by Clibborn (2015),
where he insists that immigrants should have workplace protection and legal safety nets as well.
This would prevent companies such as Walmart from exploiting the loopholes and harassing the
undocumented immigrants who are keen on providing for their families. The author concludes by
noting that the lack of a supportive legal framework, or the presence of one perceived as hostile,
