What is Social Science? How does it compare to Social Studies?
Social science is a discipline that deals with the study of human beings and human activities.
The study is different from natural sciences because its interest is in values and activities
surrounding human life. The study provides evaluation of human interactions through various
sub-units such as anthropology, sociology, psychology, and political science. Other areas in
social science include history and economics but these two depend on the area of the
discipline under studies. Social science uses scientific facts and established theories to make
conclusions about human interactions within the society.
On the other hand, social studies involve the study of human interactions and values that
support good citizenry (humanities) as well as social sciences. Some areas studies in social
science that apply to apply to social studies include philosophy and sociology. However, the
major fields to consider in this area include literature, religious studies, and culture, among
others. Social studies also provide a historic perspective of the society and geographical
boundaries of regions to study factors about human interactions deeply.

Areas of social sciences include anthropology (deals with the study of humans), history
(evaluates past events), economics (evaluates production, distribution, and consumption of
commodities and services), political science (studies all aspects of leadership and politics),

fields compare in terms of addressing the common interactions among different people as the
