Question Description

This is the assignment on Maple Holistics.

Using 1,800-2,000 words, write an individual research paper on the project you have chosen for Activities 1-6.

As a minimum, the research paper will include the following areas:

  1. What is the background of your problem statement?
  2. Why did you select the specific problem statement?
  3. The decision to perform an acquisition is heavily influenced by how it relates to the strategic business goals of an organization. Explain why you think the acquisition you are detailing in your submitted Activities potentially supports the strategic business goals of the organization.
  4. Risk analysis is a critical part of the acquisition process and is often not done very well. Looking back at the risks you identified for your submitted project, which ones do you believe would be most likely to be identified and accurately measured and which ones either less likely to be identified at all or measured correctly. Explain why. Does your analysis allow you to draw general conclusions on the type of risk that would be likely to be overlooked or mis-analyzed in future projects you might work on?
  5. Most scenarios submitted for your alternative solutions included either a COTS product or a SaaS based solution. Gartner is a top analyst that provides great insights on IT solutions across a wide range of business needs. Go to http://www.gartner.com/technology/home.jsp or leverage on another research

database to look at articles related to the IT solution you are acquiring and share the analysis on key vendors, product trends, and market potential.

(if unable to use Gartner, you may use other technology and research firms)

6. There are references to three readings below .Determine if any of them apply to your project. If so, why? If not, why not?

These three readings below can give you greater insight into commercial acquisition practices.

http://www.treasury.gov/about/organizational-structure/offices/Mgt/Pages/dcfo-osdbuhow-to-part1-04-majordiff.aspx

Company introduction
Maple Holistics is a small and medium enterprise organization that operates in the hair
and beauty industry. The company has about ten employees with annual revenue of
approximately $6.5 million annually as per the company’s financials. The company was founded
in 2001 and is headquartered Farmingdale, New Jersey. It operates a small and medium
enterprise company although it faces a lot of competition in the industry; the company continues
to innovate with the aim of increasing its competitive strength in the industry (Maple Holistics,
2018). It is imperative to understand that the hair and beauty industry is one of the most
competitive industries and continues to grow in due to emerging small and medium enterprise
companies in the industry.
Background of the problem statement
The company is faced with the challenge of finding new ways to expand beyond their
current market which is strictly e-commerce based. Part of the progression of a web-store
company is trying to remain innovative through the acquisition of innovative technologies that
can enhance their presence in both local and international markets. The company is currently
working to expand onto store shelves and become more of a name brand and household item. To
achieve this, the company must develop a technology acquisition strategy to enhance its presence
(Chaffey, 2007). The company is thus trying to acquire and expand its e-commerce base with
high bandwidth that can increase the amount of traffic.
Today, the goal of every business is to increase revenue by expanding its market share.
Maple Holistics just like any other company has the goal of improving its market share by
expanding its e-commerce platform. The intention to increase its revenue by increasing its

market share forms the background of this problem statement. Currently, the company
approximates that it holds less than 3% of the total market for hair and beauty products. This
means that to expand its revenue and market share; there is a need for technology acquisition that
can improve the company’s presence in larger markets both locally and internationally (Chaffey,
2007). With e-commerce platform with high bandwidth, the company will be able to increase the
number of users visiting the website, the page viewer per each separate user, the level of user
engagement, and most importantly develop an e-commerce platform that can host videos ...
