Critical Thinking Assignment: Case Study Analysis

Write a four- to five-page critical essay dealing with the following:

The Internet of Things (IoT) will impact just about every part of life in the future. This is an area of technology that is advancing extremely fast and allows us to connect just about every device we use one centralized platform.

This trend will continue to have a major impact on information technology as we move to more ubiquitous technology. As the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to advance new technologies and platforms, discuss how has the distributed nature of IoT infrastructure will continue to change networking fundamentals such as network architecture, services, and transmissions within Saudi Arabia.

Search the Internet or the Saudi Digital Library to find an example of a hacking activity or situation that represents a morally, ethically, or criminally ambiguous situation that took advantage of this new technology phenomenon, which demonstrates a failure of traditional network fundamental practices.

Write a critical essay that addresses the following items:

  1. Cite and briefly describe your example.
  2. Apply what you have learned from the course to this point to identify arguments both in support of and critical of the behavior of the attackers.
  3. Describe and explain the relationships among morality, ethics, law, and crime as they intersect in the case example that you have found.

Your paper should meet the following structural requirements:

  • The paper should be 4-5 pages in length, not including the cover sheet and reference page.
  • Format according to APA and Saudi Electronic University writing standards.
  • Provide support for your statements with in-text citations from a minimum of three scholarly resources. Two of these sources may be from the class readings, textbooks, or lectures, but one must be external. The Saudi Digital Library is a good place to find these references.

Case Study Analysis: The Internet of Things – The case of Saudi Arabia

To this day, the internet remains a gift that keeps on giving, one would say. One would
argue that the interconnectivity it makes possible is what has continuously steered the world into
more and more technologically advanced environments. Today, almost all our gadgets including
home appliances, vehicles, actuators, electronic sensors, etc. are interconnected in an ambiguous
network called the Internet of Things (IoT) (Alrawais, Alhothaily, Hu, & Cheng, 2017). Hence,
we can now collect massive amounts of data (even remotely) and exchange these data with other
devices across the network.
In brief, the IoT is a network of billions of ubiquitous devices around us with embedded
sensors that continuously share valuable data with other devices via an IoT platform and
applications that help us interact easily with technology (Alrawais et al., 2017). For example, a
car manufacturer may install sensors in their cars to help diagnose engine problems as they occur
and notify the customer to get it serviced even before the problem becomes critical. A company
that manufactures air conditioners, on the other hand, may embed sensors in their products to
monitor when a specific product may need servicing (Alrawais et al., 2017). The applications of
the concept of IoT are limitless.
Indeed, the government of Saudi Arabia has realized the untapped potential of IoT. And
as the kingdom continues to move towards a more technologically...
