The hanging scene
This scene comes after Solomon Northup a free man who was kidnapped and forced into
slavery is pushed too far by Paul Dano who acts as a slave master, and he retaliates by attacking
him. This attack does result in Solomon being abused physically and he is hung from a tree as
punishment. This scene is particularly merciless and quite uncomfortable and long to watch
(Adams, 2013).
The level of listening applied in this scene was ignoring, the slave master was very
arrogant and ignore anything that Solomon said while pleading. He chooses not to listen at all
but rather continue punishing him without any trace of mercy.
