A. The group chose this topic because we were interested in the process of a professional sports team relocation and the negotiation that went down for that. The group is comprised of Sports, Entertainment, and Event Management majors as well as Travel and Tourism Majors. We believe this is of correlation to our majors which will increase our interest and knowledge of the subject. · Explain the history between the sides in the negotiation you selected. B. The Oakland Raiders have a history of relocation within their organization. In 1980 the Raiders organization was headquartered in Oakland and after trying to get improvements made to their outdated stadium they made the decision to move to Los Angeles. By 1982 the team was fully relocated to Los Angeles for the next 13 seasons. The city of Oakland came to an agreement with the team to repair the Oakland Coliseum and bring back the Raiders to Oakland. When the 1995 season came around the Raiders were back in their old stomping grounds Oakland. · Identify the chief negotiators (by name) on each side and state their positions C. The chief negotiator for the Raiders is their president Marc Badain where as, the lead negotiator for the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum is Scott McKibben. · Identify when and where the negotiations began. D. The idea of relocation started in 2011 when the Raiders had discussions with the 49ers about sharing the 49ers new stadium in Santa Clara. After many years of trying to construct a new stadium in the Bay area or relocate elsewhere in California the Raiders in 2016 made a decision to move to Las Vegas. Section Two: Issues/Power · Describe the main issues/barriers that separate each side. A. When it comes to a negotiation there will always be issues and barriers that separate each side from making an easy agreement. The Oakland Raiders organization has played at the Oakland Coliseum for many years. This location is also home to the Oakland Athletics major league baseball team, meaning the Raiders share the same stadium with the A’s and are the only remaining football team to share their venue with another organization. Furthermore, with all these teams like the Rams, Chargers, Falcons and 49ers all getting or have recently gotten new state of the art stadiums the Raiders want their chance to get one of those stadiums and further increase their revenue streams. In addition, the Oakland Raiders team lease is up after the 2018 season however, their stadium in Las Vegas isn't scheduled to be ready until the 2020 season. So the Raiders are looking to discuss trying to stay in Oakland until their stadium is finished but that might not go over well with the city of Oakland. Also, having to find a new stadium and the whole relocation and new stadium building process will be very costly to the Raiders and the economy as the city will have to pay millions of dollars. Also, if Oakland lets them stay the city will have to provide them with a venue which could be costly. Another issue is the fan base, even though the Raiders will still have a solid fan base when they leave a lot of the fans are still going to be upset that their team is once again leaving. · Explain what is at stake in this negotiation and how it affects the balance of power. B. What is at stake here is that the team is going to potentially leave sooner rather than later due to the fact that the city of Oakland does not want them to stay and this shifts the balance of power into the Raiders hands because no matter what they will have somewhere to play. The NFL is not going to just cancel one of their teams season. Oakland’s mentality is why would we let the Raiders stay if they're just going to be leaving the next season. Furthermore, the city of Oakland may want to up the rent price for their stadium seeing that the Raiders would leave the following season, however, the Raiders might want to not spend a whole lot just for one season as they are spending a lot of money already on their new stadium in Las Vegas. · Identify and describe which side has the most relative bargaining power and why. C. The Oakland Raiders have the most bargaining power because even if Oakland does not let them stay for one more season they can easily find a home in 2019. A few options are potentially sharing Levi Stadium with the 49ers, they can also go back down to San Diego and play at Qualcomm Stadium which is the former home of the San Diego Chargers, now Los Angeles Chargers. While these options seem unlikely there are options. Another option would be to play their games at the University of Las Vegas. This could be beneficial to the Raiders because they can start creating their fan base and get a feel for what it is like to play in Las Vegas and play in a different size market than the bay area. The city of Oakland will lose money from the Raiders to use the Coliseum and Oakland would lose a lot of publicity as the NFL is one of the more popular sports in the country but they still have the Athletics and the Warriors. The city of Oakland is on the weaker side of the bargaining power however, they have opportunities to turn that around. Explain what the other side can do to increase its power. D. They could do something like have the Raiders pay them a decent amount of money to leave. Currently, the city of Oakland is potentially trying to sue the Raiders for moving to Las Vegas. If the city ends up winning they can win up to $500 million dollars. This could put a bad image on the Raiders because since they have moved so many times fans and other people pay attention to that and it shows that the team isn’t very loyal to their city. How many years will it be before the Raiders get bored of Las Vegas? Overall, both the Raiders and the city of Oakland have potential to be the powerhouse in terms of bargaining power. Section 3 Strategy and Tactics Strategy: Describe in detail the strategy each negotiator is using to achieve their desired outcome. Problem solving is one of the best ways to negotiate for the Raiders. It is not like zero sum game because “Raiders stay in Oakland stadium” benefit both of them. For the Raiders they gain a place to play and the fans could also . The Raiders could use “problem solving” to negotiate benefits like advertise to the public as “the last year” or “the last game” to gain more audience which is good for both sides. https://www.businessinsider.com/amy-trask-how-to-negotiate-2017-1 https://www.forbes.com/sites/rogergroves/2017/03/28/what-would-have-prevented-the-oaklandraider-move-to-las-vegas/#5a147b13ee3c ❖ Inaction(): To find a new place and move to a different state cost a lot of money and time. Extend the time to think about it and collect more information to decide. ❖ https://www.business.qld.gov.au/running-business/marketing-sales/managingrelationships/negotiating/strategies Tactics: Describe and evaluate three specific tactics each side is using to advance their strategy. B. Three tactics that the Oakland Raiders are using to advance their strategy is a Critique how the strategy and tactics each side is using is affecting their position. C. Describe the strategy and tactics your group would use to achieve your desired outcome in the same negotiation. Note: Use of terminology discussed in class and in the textbook and specific examples from your negotiation is required in this section. D. Section 4: External Factors Explain how the negotiation contains elements of both cooperation and competition. Provide insight and examples from your research. A. The city and county officials of Oakland have demonstrated cooperation by approving an opening negotiation. The negotiation is about an investment on a possible $1.3 billion for a stadium project that will hopefully convinced the Oakland Raiders to stay. Seven city council members voted to enter the negotiations with Lott. All except one member who abstained from the negotiation. During the same day. Three of five county supervisors voted yes after a three hour discussion. The Mayor of Oakland, Libby Shchaaf, vowed to continue on trying to get a proposal for the Raiders to stay at the Oakland Coliseum. National Nurses United
1. Identify and describe the history of the union you selected. Explain why you
selected this union and why it is of interest to you.
The National Nurses United (NNU) is a union of nurses, and it has approximated
185,000 members who registered nurses across all states, and this has made the union be one
of the largest unions in the healthcare industry (National Nurses United, 2009). The
formation of the union brought together three of the significant voices of unionized nurses in
the United States which were the California Nurses Association, United American Nurses,
and the Massachusetts Nurses Association. The reason I selected this union is that my mother
is a registered nurse and she belongs to the union, and in various occasions, she has explained
to me what the union is all about. The NNU is of interest to me since it plays an integral role
towards bringing to life the dream of a powerful movement of direct care to the registered
nurses. Through the movement, it has been able to advance all the interest of direct nurses
and those of the patients in the country which to me is an ideal movement. The union
objective of advocating for a reasoning nurse to patient ratios together with her aim of
advocating for patient rights interested me a lot thus the reason for choosing the NNU.
2. Explain when and why was the union was formed? THIS IS DIFFERENT
THAN THE HISTORY. Who does the union represent? Explain what benefits
and services this union provides to its members.
The NNU was formed in December of 2009, and it was established to counter the
national assault which is mostly conducted by the many health organization in the healthcare
industry on the patient care conditions together with promoting a unified vision of a
collective bargain for all the registered nurses. The union represents all the registered nurse
who has joined the union along with the patients embodied in the history of the nurses

association which were in existence on their own before merging into one body the NNU.
There are various benefits and services which members of the union derive from being
members which include sharing of experience to the newly recruited nurses towards
supporting the joint bargain campaigns. The other benefit is that the various grievances that
nurses encounter in the day-to-day activities are collectively raised by the union rather than
through different individual. The union is also of benefit to the registered nurses as it usually
negotiates for them on the best terms of service and in job contracts (Wolf, 2014). The NNU
also sponsor innovative legislations together with regulatory protection to the patients and
nurses. All the registered members of the NNU receive Medicare cover, and the union
continues to advocate for expansion and updating of the Medicare to cover all Americans.
3. What is the philosophy of the union? What is the typical relationship between
the union and the management of organizations that employ their members?
Have there been periods of labor unrest?
The philosophy of the NNU is that there is the need of providing adequate and
patient-centered care to every American and every citizen health to be backed by Medicare
and to have a single payer for a healthcare plan in the country (National Nurses United,
2009). The relationship between the NNU and the management of organizations that employ
the nurses including the World Health Organization is very positive since they both play a
coordinating role in ensuring delivery of patient-centered care and they engage together in
providing that the nurses get the best of terms regarding their employment contracts. The
NNU also works closely with the management of other organizations which employ nurses in
ensuring that they adhere to the guidelines which lead the nurses towards their delivery of
services to the patients in the country. The NNU also works closely with the management that
employs registered nurses in ensuring that they are provided a conducive working

environment, their security and needs are maintained and that the required ratio of nurses to
the patient is attained as this generally facilitate the ability of nurses to work appropriately.
Through the NNU the management of organizations that employ nurses usually contacts the
union if they need to undertake any changes that may affect the members of the union before
coming with a decision of the same.
4. What is your personal opinion of this union and its philosophy?
My opinion about the NNU union is very favorable especially due to its philosophy it
shows that it mostly focuses on the delivery of quality and affordable care to the Americans
apart from ensuring it achieves it...
