The role played by the Public Information Officer (PIO) in the modern society has become quite
challenging given the emergence of new communication mediums in the digital realm. Such a
scenario has made it almost impossible to efficiently influence public opinion. One of the
primary challenges faced by PIOs is misinformation (White, 2015). In an age where anyone with
an internet connection can post his or her sentiments regarding an issue, it is highly likely that
the information presented by a PIO will be misrepresented by the numerous internet users who
would partake in the dispersal of the information. The previous United States campaign period
appears exemplary as it was characterized by false news and exaggeration (White, 2015).
Another notable challenge faced by PIOs is the multiplicity of communication channels.
