Most smaller companies rather promote someone from within their own organization. Especially if that employee has been with the company for a long period of time. I have been with my employer for 6 years. I started working at the front desk, where I absolutely love the face to face interaction with the patients. Once I started showing my boss that I am more knowledgeable in other areas, she decided to give me more job duties. Once those duties were well maintained, she decided to promote me to team lead. Once I aced the team lead, I got promoted to office manager. I agree that there is a positive to promote from within an organization, instead of looking for more talent outside of the company.
