Symbol of Blood
Blood has been used to symbolize family and lineage with which comes honors and
obligations such as the right to be King. Richard first used the symbol “sacred blood” to describe
the means through which he came to power which is by the virtue of royal bloodline, the symbol
also portrayed the divine nature of Kingship. The concept of blood is expressed by the Duchess
of Gloucester by stating that an attack on the Duke of Gloucester who is Gaunt’s brother
constitutes an attack on their bloodline and therefore takes it personally. Blood has also been
used to symbolize guilt when used to evoke threats of violence while on the other hand, it
symbolizes humanity as stated by Richard during his moment of weakness when he states that he
is only “flesh and blood.” In the end, it is evident that as much as family ties may help to
consolidate power, there comes a time when the human nature can no longer be sustained by that
(Ramin, 2013).
Just like Richard used blood to symbolize the sense of guilt during threats to violence,
according to Macbeth, blood symbolizes guilt resulting from violence. This is evident after the
murder of King Duncan and later regret the action then gets haunted by the continuous feeling of
guilt for the crime committed. While blood symbol in Richard was seen as an aspect that tied
people together whereby an offense to an individual would mean an offense to the whole
bloodline, Macbeth uses blood as a symbol that creates fear and horror due to being haunted by
guilty conscience (Ramin, 2013).

Romantic Love, Bawdy or sexual love, Sisterly and brotherly love, Fatherly love and Unrequited
love. The central relationship between Rosalind and Orlando gives a clear demonstration of
romantic love, this kind of love has however been mocked and termed as dishonest and seen to
be having a lot of obstacles that one needs to overcome. The Bawdy Sexual form of love is
depicted by Touchstone and Audrey who believe in a physical form of love, it is seen not to have
any barriers to overcome and perceived to be a more honest form of love (Shaw, 2007).
The sisterly and brotherly love is evident from Celia and Rosalind’s form of love where
Celia decides to abandon her home in order to join Rosalind in the fores...
