Company executives have just been contacted by the media with a credible report that one of their ships is leaking an oily substance off the coast of Belize. If true, some of the world's most beautiful coral reefs could be in danger. On the other hand, the captain of the ship in question has not notified the company of any problem, and cleanup could be very costly. Environmental groups and the government of Belize have demanded that the company admit responsibility and immediately begin cleanup.

Ethical behavior refers to acting in a manner that is consistent with what society, as well
as individuals, typically think are good values. Since managers at MKD claim to practice ethical
behavior toward their workers, there are several matters this behavior might cover. One of these
matters is fairness. Although the captain of the ship has not reported any problem to the
company, the company might decide to incur the cost of the cleanup if the captain says he was
not aware of the leakage. The second matter is honesty. The company might choose to sack the
captain because he did not report the leakages to the right authority for the action of repair to be
taken. The captain might be charged with ignorance and causing damages. The third matter that
might be covered by the company for exercising ethical behavior toward employees is individual
rights. The company might decide to take the captain to court for causing pollution and death of
