Introduction
Reliability is the ability of a test or a research to consistently and
repeatedly measure what is supposed to measure. For example, when weighing 1kg of
sugar on different scales, here you expect to get equivalent or parallel results if one scale
differ from the rest then it will be considered to be unsuitable and not having valuable
purpose. Therefore, the form of assessment used is said to be reliable if it constantly
producing same results under consistent working conditions (Allan, 2013) .Reliability is
exhibited in different types as shown below.
Test retest reliability is the extent to which a test yields the same scores
when it is administered to the same group of test takers on two different occasion. Both
occasion may be separated by agreed upon time interval can be one week, two weeks or
even more, the two scores are then correlated to determine their stability. If the results
are similar in both tests, then reliability is achieved. However, if the reliability is not
achieved then it might be due to factors such as change of mood, time the test was
administered or due to other problems faced by the students (McHugh, 2012). For
example, when a doctor monitors a patient in a critical condition, vital statistics of the
patient’s well-being are compared at intervals, that is between a given or specified time
and this actually determines whether the patient’s condition is getting better or worse.
