Description

Rationale: Now it is time to culminate your efforts into one project where you apply your research and experience into an academic and creative project. This assignment has three components meant to harness academic rigor (paper), creative application (audio/visual presentation), and brevity for impatient reviewers (executive summary). By the time you have completed this project, you will be able to appeal your work to a larger audience and be ready to share your experience with more than just your professor.

Paper Component

Your paper will consist of 2 parts: (1) a general discussion of your research topic, and (2) the practical application of your research to your local ministry.

Part 1: Discussion of your research topic

  • Treat this portion of your paper more as you would a literature review.
  • Your headings should be themes, and sources should be interwoven throughout unlike an annotated bibliography where the sources are listed alphabetically.
  • Begin this portion by asking yourself, “Why is this topic important to me?”
  • As you build your paper, answer the question, “How have my research articles answered helped me to answer this question?”

Part 2: Practical Application of your research topic

  • As you address the practicality of the research, focus on the problems you face in your ministry.
  • Remember, since sin entered the world, we are not without our challenges. As you chose your challenges to address, describe how the literature you consulted has aided you.
  • Suggest the ways in which you plan to address your leadership challenges using the literature you have consulted as a basis.

Requirements:

  • Word count: 3,750 – 4,500 words
  • Sources: 12 scholarly sources
    • 6 (or more) of which are peer-reviewed
    • Sources are no more than 10 years old
    • You are not required to use all or any of the sources from your bibliography.
    • Properly cite your work.
  • Introduction
    • Provide a clear thesis statement that clearly introduces the topic of your work.
    • Give your audience a clear overview of your topic.
  • Content Application
    • Address any issues you raise in your topic.
    • Provide personal evaluation for the topic you present.
    • Provide varying perspectives.
    • Be thorough.
    • Provide practical application – go beyond theories and esoteric considerations.
  • Conclusion
    • Effectively conclude your topic.
    • Offer suggestions for further study.
  • Structure
    • Be sure to smoothly transition between sentences, paragraphs, and sections of your paper.
    • Use proper headings for themes.
    • Treat your topic logically and ensure your paper flows logically.
  • Turabian Format
    • Use current Turabian formatting throughout your paper.
    • Ensure your paper has a title page, table of contents, and a bibliography (for any references cited).
    • Complete a thorough examination of your paper, even ask a colleague to examine it to guarantee your work is free of grammatical, mechanical, and spelling errors.

Introduction

Problems Facing the Ministry
 The main problem facing the ministry is lack of effective leadership to drive the

ministry into success.
Many leaders apply ineffective leadership styles due to the lack of leadership
qualities and characteristics of both servant and transformational leadership.
only leaders who can challenge, create, achieve, inspire, energize, assess and
decide can help drive the ministry to success.
The lack of these criteria or characteristics of an effective leader make the
ministry leaders to effectively perform their mandated services for the ministry.
It is apparent that the current leadership fraternity in the ministry are lacking
both boldness and good judgment elements which are at the heart of leadership
concept.

How Literature Review has aided Addressing
Challenges
 Presenting a clear definition of what leadership means to me, and to you

and to other people.
Making me to understand that leadership is the ability to empower
followers, based on guidance, encouragement and examples
Helped me appreciate the significance of boldness and good judgment as
integral elements of leadership.
Presenting knowledge of what it takes to be a good and effective leader.
Making me comprehend that an effective leader is one who is able to
harness abilities and skills they own to marshal their respective followers
towards achieving the goal of the organization.

How Literature Review has aided Addressing
Challenges Cont.
 Detailing the effective styles of leadership and hence I will be able

recommend one to be embraced in the organization.
 Presenting a clear understanding of the importance youth leadership by
starting early to develop leaders and associated desired leadership
behavior.
 I have understood that leadership characteristics must be strongly
possessed by leaders to be well-equipped to provide real helps in the
organization to avoid corrosive effects of bad leaders by preventing
negative influence.

Ways I Plan to address leadership challenges
 I am planning to address the leadership challenges in the organization by

recommending that the ministry adopts servant leadership philosophy.
I believe that to effectively lead people in the ministry, our leaders must set the
correct example to the followers.
The ministry need to have leaders with firm possession of attributes the
ministry expects and desires.
It should have a team of leadership who are willing to commit and devote
themselves to achieve goals.
Embracing servant leadership in the ministry puts the leader in the ministry at
followers’ services and hence promotes empathy, devotion, and selflessness, all
of which are desirable leadership characteristics.

Ways I Plan to address leadership challenges
 To achieve servant leadership style in the organization, I will hold

conferences and seminars for the leaders to discuss with them all I have
learned from the reviewed literature.
 This will focus on demonstrating to them that an individual leadership
philosophy need not to conform to another person’s principles, but
instead need an extension of values that a person himself hold dear and
tries to uphold in his individual life.
 However, I will help them understand the need to integrate their
leadership philosophy into what the ministry considers fit well with the
organization’s culture.

Ways I Plan to address leadership challenges
 I will also emphasize on the leaders the importance of defining their

values in becoming an effective leader by making understand that
whatever they will do arises from their principles acting as their moral
alongside behavioral basements.
 The ministry will thus ensure that each leader defines their values for
themselves to be a leader since he will be able to have a sense of what it
takes to being devoted and committed to an ideal, objective or principle.
 Such a definition must be understood by all leaders to be significant in
achieving organizational success.
 Thus, all leaders will have to define for themselves and their followers the
organization’s values.

CONTENT APPLICATION
Part 1:
What is Leadership: A Definition of Leadership?
Leadership is described as the ability of a leader to empower his followers via guidance,
encouragement and example. Variation of leaders is based on style whereby some leaders show
boldness and transform their respective following when they instill a vision in them of what they
are able to achieve and demonstrate to them the means to achieving it. On the other hand, some
leaders remain humbled and instill inspiration in their followers through services, identification
of their needs and making sure that identified needs are fulfilled. The objective, in either case,
stays the identical: leaders are seeking to motivate their respective followers to hit their optimal

potential. A leader must one whose fundamental concern is with both positive as well as
progressive organizational direction of which he belongs: a leader’s concern is never with his
individual standing or accomplishment, but instead with the people around him successes. Where
a leader is never focused on assisting his followers to thrive, subsequently such a leader is more
probable to become a destructive one instead of being a constructive as well as effective leader.
The leadership concept is never new. Throughout the history, civilizations have
acknowledged leaders as well as celebrated effective leadership in various ways. Such General as
Julius Caeser, and statesmen as Pericles and Solon alongside artist as Shakespeare and Wagne...
