Responses to Other Students: Respond to at least 2 of your fellow classmates with a reply of 100–200 words about their Primary Task Response regarding items you found to be compelling and enlightening. To help you with your discussion, please consider the following questions: • • • • What did you learn from your classmate's posting? What additional questions do you have after reading the posting? What clarification do you need regarding the posting? What differences or similarities do you see between your posting and other classmates' postings? Melissa, Case Study Abstract The consultant hired in this instance had to come in and understand current state of operations from the business process and technology aspect. This would kick off discovery or evaluation of the information infrastructure to help understand the drivers behind packages not being delivered timely. Interviews with business operations teams and IT staff would be necessary to understand what the process is, what documents exist, and data utilized. The physical infrastructure would need to be understood as well to know how data is captured, managed, stored, preserved and delivered for use. An evaluation table would help to identify categories, deficiencies, priority, impact and potential solutions. Costs help understand the overall impact and road map to implementation, as not everything will be able to be fixed in the near term (M.U.S.E., 2018). Discuss how you can automate an existing company's method of payment in its IT infrastructure. A few options that could be utilized to automate an existing company’s method of payment should include a customer relationship management (CRM) application to help business operations and/or through ecommerce be able to fill out a simple form that on the back end has repeatable, automated steps to push through the shipping life-cycle. Analyzing peak times to understand utilization of servers and storage infrastructure should take place. The company may need to push towards cloud computing for more solution focused flexibility and reduction in cost by not having the overhead in house (Godinez et al., 2010, chapter 7). There are options that service providers offer both CRM and cloud computing as a service. This SaaS (software as a solution) model can be appealing and easy to adopt and stay up to speed on the most recent technology. Comparing different outsourced options and understanding what other companies have done to gain automation of payment methods would help to decide on the best service provider. Identify positive and negative aspects of the selected model in relation to the operational health of an organization Incorporating CRM into a sales organization will provide the tool to better understand your customers to meet their needs; which in turn translates to more sales, more profit. Additionally, moving part of the IT infrastructure to a cloud source can save money by not having data center overhead, especially if IT is not a top skill set. A cloud CRM product will provide software that is easy to use for the business side of the house, with a known cost structure that can be budgeted. Security is built into CRM software and cloud solutions and is another benefit or reason companies turn to an out sourced model. CRM tools are compatible with third-party products which would be beneficial for needed integrations to other software or databases ("Cloud-based CRM: 8 Reasons Why You Need Cloud CRM," 2018). The reliability of your internet connect is important for anything we do. If your internet is down, so will your CRM cloud solution. In doing research, as part of the selection process understanding the service providers reliability up-time will be important. Also, understanding their down time and if there is fail-over capability to other servers, in different geographic locations. Another downside in the cost might not be what is paid for the software but could bring surprise in the cost for user licenses. This area needs to be scrutinized to ensure the cost structure does not end up being more than expected. Lastly, understanding the customer service support provided to ensure all days of the weeks and year are covered from a technical support perspective (Ward, 2016). Michael, A stream of thought has recently emerged where business process management (BPM) has begun focusing on reducing the gap between business and IT. It’s all about what capabilities are necessary in an enterprise architecture to make a digital transformation to happen. An enterprise architecture is a holistic view of an organization’s strategy, processes, information, and IT assets to support the most efficient and secure IT environment (CIO, 2017). Enterprise architecture has recently become incredibly complex with what’s going on. To understand the value of an enterprise architecture it’s important to realize how you can automate an existing company's method of payment in its IT infrastructure. Next, the positive and negative aspects of a selected model in relation to the operational health of an organization will be identified. First, how an existing company’s method of payment within its IT infrastructure can be automated will be provided. There are ways for an existing company to automate its method of payment within its IT infrastructure. The intent of an enterprise architecture is to determine how an organization can most effectively achieve its current and future objectives (Rouse, 2007). Infrastructure automation tools and processes will save system administrators time on routine tasks and remove chances for human error. IT ops teams usually start by targeting the right areas for orchestration and workflow automation. One area that can be fully exploited is to script everything. Pairing configuration management and infrastructure automation tools with a solid change management system will reduce the chances for alert calls when automating payment methods online. Testing the automation method before roll-out will allow for compatibility and integration of a successful system. Next, the positive and negative aspects of a selected model in relation to the operational health of an organization will be identified. There are both positive and negative aspects of an enterprise architecture model in relation to the operational health of an organization. Using TOGAF as the most popular framework, positive aspects that it can have on the health of an organization include: having an excellent support of automated tools and software vendors, consultants and a large support base from the enterprise architecture user community. It is also structured while flexible and easy to maintain requiring less support on its operational health. Negative aspects include: organizations misapplying the implementation of TOGAF where business agility is largely out of reach and positive business outcomes are not fully achieved (Bloomberg, 2014). In conclusion, a stream of thought has recently emerged where business process management has begun focusing on reducing the gap between business and IT. It’s all about what capabilities are necessary in an enterprise architecture to make a digital transformation to happen. There are ways for an existing company to automate its method of payment within its IT infrastructure. Finally, there are both positive and negative aspects of an enterprise architecture model in relation to the operational health of an organization. ...
