A nanometer is a unit of length which is equal to one billionth of a meter. A strand of
human hair is roughly 25,000 nanometers wide. One nanometer is approximately the width of
three to four atoms! Technology is making and using the knowledge of machines, tools, and
techniques to perform a specific function or to solve a problem. So when we attach Nano – we
are referring to the engineering or construction of functions and systems scaled at the atomic
level. That is machines, materials, devices or structures which at least have one dimension size
between 1 and 100 nanometers. A quick search on any search engine for “Nano” attached to any
developing economy highlights ever-growing research and development with diverse orientation
a testimony of the fad in this ever-growing frontier. The economies are either in Nanomaterials,
Nano-bio or all in all three.
Materials and chemical substances produced through nanotechnology or which
constitutes particles or constituents of any nanoscale dimension are known as Nano-Materials. A
Nanomaterial, therefore, consists of any material with particles or component of nanoscale in any
of its aspect. A material produced through nanotechnology is also a nanomaterial. These
materials are gaining popularity for their characteristics and functionalities as applied in solving
problems. For example Aluminum silicate’s scratch resistance is applied in scratch proof screens
for mobile phones – The length of the screen is scalable, but the width of the aluminum silicate
layer on the screen is between 1 and 100 nanometers, Zinc oxide ions are dirt repellants and

hydrophobic which makes them ideal for the manufacture for water-resistant devices and in
cosmetics. The gold ions are used for chip fabrication for its good current conductivity as well as
in drug delivery. Silver ions have healing properties, and this has seen them applied in Nano-Bio
(Hitler 66).
Nano-Bio taps the technology combined with the nanoparticle physicochemical
properties using tools and techniques to approach physiological problems. With the diversity of
Nanomaterials comes with diverse physiochemical behaviors in their interaction and effects with
the biological systems. Countries are rooted in research exploring the large material spaces, and
fortunately, with the artificial intelligence and machine learning methods the Nano-bio methods
have not only significantly eliminated animal testing, but it also derives quantitive good
predictability ("Toward a Systematic Exploration of Nano-bio Interactions"). One of the most
remarkable areas of success is in the treatment of cancer. Nano-sized carriers are attached with
drugs or localized on cancer sites (tumor) and programmed to release drugs in the predetermined
