SampleCo Organizational Chart President Division 1 Production Division Division 2 Production Division 1 Production Div. 2 Production Div. 3 Division 4 Production Div. 4 Overview TopGallant Industries is a large, multiservice company that has been mining ore and producing metal parts for the US government for about a century. Over the years, it has expanded its operations to embrace many other industry sectors, including electronics, information technology, transportation engineering and consulting. TopGallant's Steelville Works, which manufactures industrial grade stainless steel balls used in ball bearings, has just hired you as its new Assistant Operations Manager. In your role, you will be involved in a variety of operations management functions that will help your division plan its activities, manufacture and distribute its products, and improve its efficiency. Directions Representatives from TopGallant's Finance Division are visiting Steelville Works next month. Your boss, Cameron Coulter, realizes that many employees at Steelville do not understand the relationship between Finance and Production. In fact, they might have a difficult time explaining to the Finance visitors what happens at Steelville outside of their own work roles. To improve employees' understanding of the bigger picture, he asks you to create two documents to share with workers at Steelville: • A glossary of business operations terms • An organization chart of TopGallant Industries' business functions Glossary For the glossary, Cam has given you a list of terms in a resource called "Glossary: Business Operations Terms." Workers who understand the terms listed here will be equipped to hold a conversation about the parts of a business and of a manufacturing division. Define each of these terms using at least two sentences. Be aware that different resources can use terms in different ways, so you will need to be thorough and consistent within your glossary. Organization Chart To construct the organization chart, use whatever standard organization chart layout you think fits the task best. You may choose to divide the chart to take up multiple pages for readability and visual appeal. The chart should: • include all key functions necessary to the running of TopGallant. • show correct relationships of the key functions to each other and to the operations divisions. • include annotations of two to four sentences to describe each corporate function. For the operations divisions of TopGallant: • name and describe all of TopGallant's operations divisions. • include a lower tier in the chart to detail the business functions of Steelville (but not the operations divisions). Because Steelville manages some business functions within its own division, you will be noting these functions in both upper and lower tiers on the organizational chart. Some chart-building choices include SmartArt, within Microsoft Word, and drawings within Google docs. The organization chart will be incorporated into the final project, the Operations Plan.
