Unit 8: General Questions and Final Week Discussions
InstructionsPlease choose one of the following questions to answer for this unit by Wednesday at 11:59pm (CST). You should also respond to two of your classmates' postings by Sunday at 11:59pm (CST).Before answering this unit's questions, you should read “Serial Killing in America After 9/11,” p. 244 in Natural Born Celebrities.Keep in mind, as you view the film, a few of the questions posted below.RubricOnline discussions will be graded according to the following rubric.Full-bodied entries—of at least ten sentences of writing from you (in addition to quotations from the text)—are more likely to receive full credit. Lesser credit will be assigned to work that is missing, brief, or clearly disengaged or sloppily produced such that miscues interfere with readability.Your responses to other students’ work are also assessed. Students often resist commenting on each others’ work in substantial ways; instead choosing to post simply “good job” or “looks okay to me.” This kind of peer response doesn’t help your own—or your peers’—development as a writer and thinker.Acceptable peer responses will, among other things:Explicitly identify what was learned from someone else’s work.Ask a follow-up question.Offer an alternative interpretation.Offer concrete strategies for improvement.PointsCriteria18-20Discussion posts are completed on-time; they not only thoughtfully respond to and incorporate course readings when appropriate, but they evidence creative thinking and make a significant contribution to peers’ understanding of the course topics. Moreover, follow-up posts/peer responses clarify and extend the class conversation, demonstrating critical thinking. 16-17Discussion posts are essentially complete and incorporate, when appropriate, excerpts from the course readings. Initial post is made by due date, and follow-up posts/peer responses engage others in continued discussion.11-15Discussion posts are incomplete, inaccurate, and/or late. Peer response is present but perfunctory, offering little “back” to enhance peers’ understanding.1-10Posts and peer responses are not made to all topic threads.0No posts are made, or posts are entered after the unit’s discussion has ended.Questions (Reading and General Questions)Choose one questions to answer:In the final chapter from Natural Born Celebrities, Schmid argues that the serial killer genre and the terrorist genre of films coincided after 9/11. The co-mingling of the genres offered an opportunity for us to associate serial killers as a foreign threat to our nation. What ties do you see between this idea and the zombie trend in popular culture right now?Overall, what concepts about violence in the media have you gained during the time in this course? What ideas will resonate with you after the course ends? While most people simply consume these films and TV series as mindless entertainment, what do you now think they are actually watching and internalizing, if anything? If you were teaching this course, what media would you have included in the syllabus? (Remember, the idea: How are we valorizing the serial killer or reversing the positions of killers within pop culture.) Thoughts?

RC Theoretical Approaches to Service Delivery the Gestalt Therapy Discussion
Part 1: ReadConsider the following case scenario:Brent, a 50 year old married male is having anxiety about his young adult daughter Rachel, who in the past year has graduated from high school and is now freshman at a large university. Brent is worried that his daughter will not be successful academically and may make poor choices in deciding to drink with peers or even be a victim or date-rape. Brent's wife Susan is less worried. She believes that Rachel has a good head on her shoulders, and that as a teenager, she did well in high school and has overall not been known for foolish behavior.Part 2: ResearchUsing search engines and Rasmussen resources, research Gestalt Therapy, an older confrontational treatment model that looks at incongruences between the client's verbal statements vs the client's body language, including facial expressions. While some human service workers and counselors may borrow elements of Gestalt Therapy, very few would identify themselves as Gestalt purists.Part 3: ReflectFor this part of the assignment, you will use your critical thinking skills and reflect upon the case scenario. In a minimum of two-pages (not counting the title page and reference page) address the following:Explain the Gestalt Therapy methods. Why the Gestalt approach is rarely used in a pure form.Rather than using a Gestalt approach, discuss which contemporary service model you believe to be the most appropriate for the above case scenario. Why? Be specific.

COMM M26 Moorpark College Trivializing Sexual Assault and Abuse Essay
In class we defined Rape Culture using the definition from the Oxford English Dictionary:
"A society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse."
Your task is to:
1. Provide and explain two specific artifacts from US pop culture (within the last ten years) that contribute to the trivialization of sexual assault and/or sexual abuse. At least one of these artifacts needs to be something other than one provided in the lecture material.
For example, if I could go back further than ten years (you can't) I might point to the lyrics of Summer Lovin' from Grease, Baby It's Cold Outside, or the movies Sixteen Candles or Revenge of the Nerds.
2. Provide and explain two specific real world incidents (not just statistical analyses) in the US where we can see that sexual assault and/or sexual abuse were trivialized (not treated with the seriousness they deserve). These incidents should be drawn from news reports within the last five years and at least one of them needs to be something other than what was provided in the lecture material. Cite your sources (MLA or APA).
For example if I were to draw examples from outside the US (you can't), I might cite the court case in Ireland where a man was acquitted of rape solely because the survivor was wearing black lace panties which the defense argued "was an indication of consent". Or, the case in India of #boislockerroom.

Deanza College Chapter 5 & 6 Traditional West African Music Performance HW
Please choose and then respond to one of the following two prompts and then add comments on another student's posting. A substantive post and reply should be about 75 words each.Chapter 5. Music notation is one of the most important contributions of Europeans to the development of music. One of the byproducts of this development is the potential for separation between composer and performer. Describe the different attributes required to be effective in each ‘role’ (composer/songwriter vs performer). Identify and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses regarding the roles of composer/songwriter and performer in a musician you listen to in contemporary music. If you had to choose between one or the other of these roles for yourself, which one would you choose and why? ORChapter 6. Traditional West African music performance is very different from European music performance practice. Compare the idea of “masterpiece” with “master improvisation.” What skills do you think are important for each one? If you had to choose between becoming a renowned composer/songwriter or a renowned improviser/performer, which one would you choose and why?
