Training and Development in Small Businesses
Introduction
Small businesses usually form the backbone of many nations including America. They
are normally characterized by an employee number of fewer than 500 employees and usually
operate within a limited geographical location. The fact that they require relatively small
initial capitals to start makes them quite popular. In the United States of America, the small
businesses form the heart and soul of the country’s capitalism. According to a research
conducted by the United States Small Business Administration, there are almost thirty million
small businesses in the United States which employ 47.8 percent of the United States
workforce (Hosting et al., 2018).

overall revenues have been on the fall and after a thorough business analysis and evaluation
by the current top management has revealed its employee inconsistent and poor performance
over the last one year has significantly contributed to the current fall in business revenues.
Consequently, the firm senior management hired me to provide the much-needed consultation
on employee training and development.

training and development (Bhattacharyya & Patnaik, 2018, p. 45). The phases are analysis,
design, development, implementation, and evaluation. It is a generic process traditionally
