Technology advances for healthcare are becoming an impetus for the delivery of quality
care. Healthcare experts and policymakers regard health information technologies to be
fundamental to the transformation of the industry. The management of information is critical to
the delivery of healthcare. Advancements in technology have largely impacted the process given
the fragmented nature of health care and the need to put into practice scientific evidence. The
purpose of this study is to identify the effects of technology on healthcare and the disadvantages
of technology use in healthcare.
Effects of Technology on Health Care, Nursing, Patient Care
Technology use in healthcare represents a means to support the delivery of medical care.
Technologies enhance the quality of care, facilitate patient-centered care, and educate health
professional and patients. The constant technological developments have saved many lives and
enhanced the quality of life. Not only have they had a vast influence on clinical processes and
practices, but they have also changed experiences for patients and their families. The main effect
of health information technology is the improvement of the quality of care through the increase
of observance of medical guidelines and protocols. Decision support systems such as
computerized reminders assist the delivery of care especially in preventive measures (Rouleau et
