  • Using Exercise 3 (pages 179-180),
    • State the null hypothesis.
    • Calculate the difference between the proportions or means.
    • Calculate the standard error of the difference in proportions or means.
    • Conduct the eyeball test and state whether you would accept the null hypothesis or reject the null hypothesis, and explain you reasoning.
  • Using Exercise 3 (page 211),
    • What is the regression equation for this relationship?
    • Interpret the regression equation: What exactly is the effect of x on y? (Look over the Hint provided.)
    • Interpret the y-intercept: What does the intercept tell you, exactly?
    • Discuss the following: Based on the equation, what is the predicted value of y for census tracts that are 15% low-income? What about census blocks that are 25% low-income?
    • Interpret the Adjusted R-square of .94 for these data.
