Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is recognized as a type of anxiety disorder that
develops over time after a person like Veronica get exposed to or in other words witnesses a
traumatic event that is to a great extent seen as life-threatening or that threatens the integrity of
one’s self or others, and this results in one reacting with intense fear, helplessness, or horror.
Such events include childhood sexual abuse like the case of Veronica and it requires a
comprehensive treatment plan for recovery to be realized. Part of this needs the establishment of
therapeutic goals and ensuring that Veronica is actively involved in the identification of those
goals (Foa, et al., 2008). Becoming aware of these goals and putting in place the treatment plan
requires focusing on input from both the therapist as well as the person in therapy who in this
case happens to be Veronica.
It will also be a wise undertaking to consider input from other professionals, for instance,
psychiatrist, or even primary care physician. It would then be proper to have a proper and
thorough assessment of the information gathered from Veronica as the means to diagnose the
root cause of the problem hence helping in determining the goals or what to focus on as far as
