Discussion Question:
While there are many factors driving the pace of organizational change today, there are four (4)
factors that stand out; globalization, technological changes, the rise of the knowledge worker, and the
importance of cross-functional collaboration within organizations. Bearing in mind that change is now
the new normal, what must organizations do to effectively manage the rapidly changing internal and
external environments within which they conduct business?

BADM 635 University of Cumberlands Sochi Olympics Risk Assessment Case Study Ques
Activity I - Qualitative Risk Assessmen t. Imagine that you are a member of a project team that has been charged with developing a new product for the residential building industry. Using a qualitative risk analysis matrix, develop a risk assessmen t t for a project based on the following information: : Identified risk factors Likelihood 1. Key team members pulled off project 1. High 2. Chance of economic downturn 2. Low 3. Project funding cut 3. Medium 4. Project scope changes 4. High 5. Poor spec. performance 5. LowBased on this information, how would you rate the consequences of each of the identified risk factors? Why? Construct the risk matrix and classify each of the risk factors in the matrix.Activity II - Sochi Olympics—What’s the Cost of National Prestige? The Sochi Olympics was an example of project costs running out of control; so much so that the final price tag (estimated to be more than $50 billion), dwarfed the costs of every other Olympic Games to this point in time. In addition to picking a questionable, sub-tropical location for the Games, from the very beginning, the process of developing the site was subject to meddling from politicians, including President Vladimir Putin. Another major cost to the final price tag was related to charges of wide-spread corruption, as sub-projects for the Games (such as infrastructure, buildings, and roads) ended up with highly inflated price tags. This is a great case for general class discussion as we consider the purpose for Olympic Games, the challenges of cost control with critical deadlines that must be adhered to, and the fact that costs are rising for Games to the point where in 2017, Rome, Budapest, and several other cities withdrew their bids to host the 2024 Olympics because they could not trust the final costs and could not justify the value they would gain versus the costs of the project.QuestionsConsider the following statement: “Government-funded projects intended to serve as ‘prestige projects,’ such as the Sochi Olympics, should not be judged on the basis of cost.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why?Project success is defined as adherence to budget, schedule, functionality (performance), and client satisfaction. Under these criteria, cite evidence that suggests the Sochi Olympics project was a success and/or failure. When a project has a “hard gate,” like being ready on time, how does that affect normal success criteria? Is it fair to judge a project with a critical completion date by normal project success standards? Why or why not?Consider the problems with the Rio Olympics sites that quickly occurred following completion of the 2016 Summer Games. Access the internet to find evidence of the current state of the Sochi Olympic site. How is it being used and what are the current problems and opportunities for Sochi?

XYA believed that the widget gadget contained parts owned by XYA under their patent. XYA filed a lawsuit in Federal Court asking for expedited review to determine whether an injunction should be issued against ZZZ to stop the imminent escalation of production. As a part of the preliminary hearing in Federal court, XYA asked the court to allow it to obtain a copy of the official gadget blueprint specifications to determine if the case should continue. Under what procedure would XYA be permitted to receive the plans?Suzy Que resides in North Carolina, a state that supplies the majority of vape chemicals used in the new smoking pipes. Suzy sued the company, VapAttack Inc., which is the manufacturer and supplier of the chemicals. Suzy sued VapAttack Inc. in federal court in the county in which she resides. Suzy lives in the same county were the majority of tobacco growers are located. VapAttack Inc. filed a motion with the court for a Change of Venue asking the court to change the location of the lawsuit to the county where its headquarters resides. Under what court procedure is the motion filed by VapAttack Inc. likely to be brought? What potential grounds for removal would the court review in deciding?Jake Salesman is a sales manager at Wegotit, Inc.. The company SVP provided Jake and other team leaders a copy of the company's new sales forecast for the fourth quarter. The SVP distributed information related to the third-quarter results to the team leaders. The company performance was well below the profitable goals set by the president of the company. The target goals will keep the company liquid for the rest of the year if met. Because of the third quarter's results, the company faced massive layoffs unless the team doubled its efforts by the end of the fourth quarter. The SVP interpreted the President of the company's message as meaning they had to do everything possible to regain the market share. The SVP indicated to the team leaders that they were personally responsible for the survival of the company. The highlight of his presentation came when he told everyone in the room that they were to recover the market share "by any means necessary." The president said that that they should leave no stone unturned and let no rule stand in their way. Jake set up a meeting with his team to go over the individual quotas for which his members were responsible. Before the meeting with the SVP ended, the SVP indicated that he wanted every team leader to repeat his call to duty to reach the goals. If Jake Salesman follows the SVP's directives, what else should Jake consider discussing with his team during this meeting, and why? What legal issues could potentially create a problem if the team took the phrase "by any means necessary, literally?"

Due Process Model and Crime Control Model
Introduction:The U.S. legal system is based heavily on English common law. Courts interpret law, passed by the legislature, in ways that shift from emphasizing individual rights to emphasizing societal needs. The individual rights shift aligns with the due process model. The societal needs focus aligns with the crime control model. Public policy and philosophical underpinnings often influence court decisions. Decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court bind everyone in our nation. State rulings bind everyone in the state. This process and its implications are important for those working in the criminal justice field.Instructions:Research one case that tipped the scales in favor of societal needs and one case that tipped the scales in favor of individual rights in criminal law and/or criminal procedure. Include the following:An overview of the cases. The rulings.Rights interpretations. The policy and underpinnings you feel influenced the rulings. Why you interpreted the cases as tipping the scales in each direction.Special Instructions:Create a 1 page essay in APA format according to the instructions above. Use 2 scholarly sources for references. Be sure to use in-text citations.
