2.This week we have narrative from different SEAL operations to weave a thread together about ethics under fire.

The first scenario was Bob Kerrey (Vietnam) and the alleged killing of civilians to cover an operation and his team. The second scenario is Lt. Mike Murphy, Marus Luttrell, “Axe” Axelson and Danny Dietz, who declined to kill 3 goatherds to secure there clandestine operating post. Kerry experienced no loss of personnel, Murphy lost everyone except Luttrell.

The Choice of Evils Doctrine generally provides justification for a person to commit a bad act when he/she is confronted with a choice of two evils, as long as the lesser of the two evils is selected as the course of action. As we have read, two U.S. Navy SEAL teams were presented with the choice of killing civilians or experiencing mission failure. The result of these decisions had hard consequences.

Ethically, who comes out on top? Remember the times and examine the very different rules of engagement of the 2 time periods. Discuss the legal and the ethical components of these decisions and state what course of action you would have taken, as team leader, in each scenario and why. Think through the totality of the circumstances before you start throwing down your ideas.

government had come to their rescue (Yousafzai, 2013). However, during the time of war
between the four United States Navy Seals and the Taliban, the village did not see the need of
