E-commerce
E-commerce is a broadly used term by people when engaging on various platforms
either online or offline. To each person, the term describes their online presence, product, and
way of operation or nature of their business. This, therefore, implies that people have varied
interpretations of what exactly e-commerce is. It is with this in mind that this paper is written
to explain what it is with the view of creating a common understanding from which can act as
a guide in matters e-commerce.
E-Commerce is a term that is used to refer to electronic commerce and this refers to a
way of doing business with the use of electronic networks such as the internet. It refers to the
buying and the selling of goods as well as services through the use of the internet as a
medium. It is believed that e-commerce began in the 60s when businesses began using EDI or
electronic data interchange to share business documents with other companies (Turban,
Outland, King, Lee, Liang & Turban 75). In the 80s there was a rise in the sharing of
electronic documents for business purposes and later on, in the 90s organizations such as
eBay and Amazon revolutionized the E-Commerce industry. E-commerce has developed
tremendously over the last few years and there is a gradual rise in the use of the E-Commerce
