Population and Community Ecology
Populations consists all of the species living within a specific area. A population can
change overtime due to many factors. Demography is the statistical study of population
dynamics, it uses tools to investigate how populations respond to changes. Life tables
detail the life expectancy of living individuals within a population.Population size or (N)
is the total number of individuals and populations density is the number of individuals
within a specific area. These two variables are usually the beginning variables for any
research study. The most accurate way to determine population size is to count all of the
individuals. This can not always be done especially when studying large habitats.
Because of this there are now tools scientist use to come up with these numbers. The first
is a quadrat and this can be used for organisms such as plants or slow moving organisms.
A quadrat is a way of marking off square areas and after setting these boundaries
