based on values, held assumptions, and beliefs. For instance, many people dislike increase
in taxes because they believe that it will not be reflected in the government delivery.



Values have to do with how people have learned to behave or to live (how things should be),
for instance, according to me, people should demonstrate honesty, openness, and integrity
in life



Belies, on the other hand, are what people understand as being in existence, for instance, I
believe that God exists.

2. In your own words, explain ethos, pathos, and logos. Provide an example where each of the
approaches are utilized.


Ethos include the use of one’s credibility or character to convince their audience, for
instance, showing them that you are a credible source worth listening to (I have a master’s in
psychology or medicine)



Pathos involves using an emotional appeal to persuade an audience, for instance, to draw
pity from them or inspire anger.



Logos is an appeal to logic or reason, for instance, citing statistics or facts.
