Introduction
Texas is actually the largest state in the southern part of the United States. The area is
majorly a desert with Huston as its capital. The state has a large number of occupants and several
emerging industries as well as established ones already ranging from agriculture to
petrochemicals to energy and even computers. With such a magnitude of the population it is in
tandem that the state puts some strict measures to ensure the state is safe. This is done through
policies in which a proposal is made and then the state officials discuss on it to ascertain whether
it’s a sensible thing to do or not. In this paper we are going to look at the policy of separating
families at the border in which we will address the current policy, cause for the changes, other
viable options for consideration, the merits and demerits of the options, a recommendation for a
course of action and why the cause of action is actually the best.
The policy
The policy to separate families have sparked different reactions from different corners of
the states with a vast majority of the Republicans agreeing it is the right step and the Democrats
being against the idea as a whole. The president Donald Trump gave an executive order to have
children separated from adults who were seeking asylum as they served their sentences. Various
critiques have said the action was not sustainable and that it was a way of repelling any asylum
seekers from the United States. Texas is the state that borders Mexico mostly is highly affected
because of the number of immigrants that cross into the state illegally in an effort to seek job

opportunities. Various refugee groups have pointed out that the new gesture will greatly violate
the rights of the children which extend to their emotional and psychological damage. Already
there are children who have already been separated from their families and it is unclear on
whether they will be reunited with their families or not especially after the president's zerotolerance policy (Paoletti, Sarah & Mayeri, 2).
The punishment on asylum seekers in actually against what the United States stands
under the article thirty-one where they are supposed to welcome asylum seekers with
compassion and not be charged for crossing borders illegally. In a recent occurrence, Bangladesh
was congratulated by the United States for allowing asylum seekers to enter their borders and
receiving them with passion.
Reason for the policy
The policy is aimed at ensuring that there are no illegal immigrants that are entering the
country because there are several beliefs about immigrants who enter the country from Mexico.
Some of the reasons are, the immigrants found in the United States are going through harsh
conditions and a significant number of them cannot secure jobs and eventually turn to crime in
order to be able to fend for themselves. The minority who can land jobs are paid minimal wages
and stay under inhuman conditions. The American citizens think these immigrants are highly
dangerous and ought to be deported for them to feel safe in their country. The second reason is
that Texas has several industries which offer jobs to several people and if the immigrants are
allowed into the state they will be competing for jobs with the locals which are actually not true
because the immigrants always buy American products which offer jobs to the citizens. They
also start businesses in the country which the natives would most likely not start and contribute
to the overall GDP of the country as a whole. The immigrants single-handedly contribute
