Describe the information/content that can be found in these data sources. Present an example of an industry that might find each of these data sources useful. DQ 2 What is the difference between service-based and population-based applications for information systems in public health organizations? Present an example of each application and justify your rationale. Select three other peers' postings to peer review. Provide appropriate feedback DQ 3 As it relates to the development and management of public health assessment activities, what is your response to the following statement? DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTERVENTION RESEARCH AND SYSTEMS RESEARCH

2

Difference between Intervention Research and Systems Research
Systems research is also referred as health systems research and it is multidisciplinary
scientific field that investigates how patients access healthcare services and healthcare
professionals (Bowling, 2014). Also, systems research examines how much costs a patient
incurs as results of services he / she receives. Examples of systems research include population
and health surveys.
Intervention research involves studies where researchers follow systemic changes of
condition under research to understand the effects on patient’s physical ability, skill or
performance (Green & Thorogood, 2018). Examples of the intervention research include clinical
trial studies and experimental studies.
Public Accomplishment with Systems research:
Systems research example includes population and health surveys; thus, the pats research
analysis of the population and their health needs has attributed to successful public health
achievement (Bowling, 2014). The introduction of vaccines such as pneumococcal and rotavirus
to population as well vaccines for communicable diseases like measles is credited to systems
research.
Public Health accomplishment with intervention research:
Intervention research on the five tier pyramid of health has increased and improved life
expectancy. The research is being is used as a framework for public health action and it is
published in American Journal of public health as: The Health Impact Pyramid (Green &
Thorogood, 2018).

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN INTERVENTION RESEARCH AND SYSTEMS RESEARCH

3

The role of systems research is to conduct a systematic research on population and data collected
is evaluated to help in identifying the health needs of the people.

SERVICE-BASED AND POPULATION-BASED APPLICATIONS
Difference between Service-based and Population-based Applications for Information
Systems in Public Health Organization
Service-based applications are services that are offered when examining effect of health
problem on patients i.e. the data is collected at the front line of public health (Chung & Lo,
2018). For example, sample of blood obtained from children exposed to a certain chemical is a
service-based application. Therefore, service based applications is concerns with certain
individual suffering from same disease.
Population-based health takes into considerations of the whole population rather person’s
needs when making health care decisions. Population comprises of people have same traits.
Thus, in this system when health care giver achieves positive results from treating an individual,
the procedure or treatment is standardized to similar patients suffering from the same infections
(Prinz et al., 2009). The population-focused application in health helps in eliminating the
inequalities while at same time empowering masses as more healthcare professionals are taught
on how to conduct procedure or to administer drugs. The introduced procedure helps in ensuring
that infections are prevented i.e. primary and secondary prevention. Example of population
focused approach is the treatment of cardiovascular.
Therefore, the difference between service-based approach and population based approach
is that population takes into consideration of the whole community rather than personal needs
while service based focus on individuals.

DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH ASSESSMENT
It is suggested that the assessment process is driven by decisions made by the community
members themselves, rather than by influences from the outside community.
Response to statement:
The statement is in way correct. Individuals working together can make change to be
realized due to share responsibilities and beliefs that they can. Although people within a
community have different thoughts and see thing differently while others see them incapable of
bring change, they can still find grounds that they comprise. The differences arise due to political
correctness and lack of information. Lack of information is major reason people fail to achieve
change. Thus, people who have interacted and commenced a trust among themselves can
influence the process that an individual from outside their community.
