Students are to research and present on only one state’s (except NJ and New York) court structure.Students are to write a short summary of how the court systems are structured, the hierarchy, and functions of each division.Students may choose to upload a chart along with (NOT in lieu of) the report.
Students must cite in APA format with in-text citations and a reference page.
Students should limit their resources to scholarly sites ( .edu, .gov, or .edu ) journal articles, or books.
Assignments must be typed, 12 point font, Times New Roman, double-spaced, approximately 1-2 pages in length.
Submissions should be in a form of an attachment as either word (doc or docx) rich text (rtf) or pdf.

Introduction
The court system of California State is hierarchical with the supreme court at the top,
followed by the appellate courts of the first order and finally the superior courts used for the
first order. The Judicial Council and the staff are responsible for the court structure’s
administration (Neubauer & Fradella, 2018). The governor of the superior courts at higher
levels conducts the role of appointing the judges of the autonomous courts.
The Supreme Court
The highest court in California State is the Supreme Court. Its role is to review cases
that the Courts of Appeal have decided upon such as disciplinary cases involving judges and
lawyers, and death penalty cases. The headquarters of the Supreme Court in California State,
San Francisco. It also comprises branches in Sacramento as well as Los Angeles (Neubauer &
Fradella, 2018). For its structure, it is made up of the Chief Justice of California, along with
Six Associate Justices.
