An annotated bibliography is a list of secondary source citations with a short overview of each essay’s main argument. The educational goal is to 1) gather information necessary for your final research paper and 2) to train yourself in finding other authors’ theses sentences so you can write your own. Before you begin this assignment you should read the Purdue OWL section on annotated bibliographies at https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/01/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

For this assignment you should:

  1. List at least 14 secondary sources in alphabetical order.
  2. Include all information required by the MLA style for the citation. You can find this in your handbook or online at https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
  3. Include a 100 word summary of each source, which should include direct quotes. The goal here is for you to find the author’s thesis sentence.
  4. Proofread for grammar errors. For style guidance, go to https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/ (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.

Your bibliography should look something like this for a book:

Lamott, Anne. Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. New York: Anchor Books, 1995. Print.

Lamott's book offers honest advice on the nature of a writing life, complete with its insecurities and failures. Taking a humorous approach to the realities of being a writer, the chapters in Lamott's book are wry and anecdotal and offer advice on everything from plot development to jealousy, from perfectionism to struggling with one's own internal critic. In the process, Lamott includes writing exercises designed to be both productive and fun.

Lamott offers sane advice for those struggling with the anxieties of writing, but her main project seems to be offering the reader a reality check regarding writing, publishing, and struggling with one's own imperfect humanity in the process. Rather than a practical handbook to producing and/or publishing, this text is indispensable because of its honest perspective, its down-to-earth humor, and its encouraging approach.

Chapters in this text could easily be included in the curriculum for a writing class. Several of the chapters in Part 1 address the writing process and would serve to generate discussion on students' own drafting and revising processes. Some of the writing exercises would also be appropriate for generating classroom writing exercises. Students should find Lamott's style both engaging and enjoyable.

And like this for an article:

Babbitt, Kevin. "Mary Magdalene and the Drama of Saints: Theatre, Gender, and Religion in Late Medieval England." Theatre Journal 57.2 (2005). 331-332. 10 September 2005. <http://muse.jhu.edu/journals/ theatre_journal/v057/57.2babbitt.html (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.>.

The author provides an in-depth review of Theresa Coletti's book (ISBN-13: 978-0812238006) based on the Bodleian Library manuscript Digby 133 (the Digby Mary Magdalene). He is very favorable of the book, describing the author's analysis as knowledgeable, thorough, and cohesive. Babbitt highly recommends the text for anyone interested in looking at the performance of religion, especially in light of gender issues.

Surname 1 Name Professor Course Date The Yellow Wallpaper Research Proposal The text that I have chosen to base my research on is Perkin Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper. In the short story, the narrator explains the implications of having a creative mind and the disastrous effects of being forced to hide the brilliance of such a mind (Gilman). This builds up a psychological fiction where the wife of John is subjected to typical nineteenthcentury male chauvinism. This oppressive nature of the female entity causes John's wife into hiding where she suffers extensive psychological damage as she is forced to hide her creative ability. The wife is not allowed to write any creative material and she is forced to hide her journal which she terms as her relief. This hiding of appearance by the wife leads her to act as though she is recovering from her depression whereas the situation is quite contrary. Through this action, she lands herself in extreme mental breakdown. This narrative leads to the theme that male chauvinism has an adverse negative effect on the forward and positive development of the family unit and community as a whole. Chauvinism is the attitude or the behavior of superiority that is expressed by a member of the opposite sex towards the other (Miriam-Webster). In the modern day, there are multiple lobby groups that are fighting for the liberation of women from oppressive thinking as well as repressive marriages and practices. The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is an example of literary that is strives to reveal the negative effects of suppressing the power of a Surname 2 woman. In the story, Gilman gradually builds up the plot to reveal the slow and steady deterioration of John's wife, who has a creative mind but is forced to suppress to the satisfaction of her husband's will. The story is based on the grandeur holiday vacation that John takes his family to enjoy. However, the narrator describes the vacation house as a haunted house that has been empty for a long period of time. The narrator's husband is her doctor who seems to belittle her concerns and condition. Her husband prescribes her to a medication that renders her inactive and requires her to do almost nothing at all. This works well to work as a metaphor for the requirement that male chauvinist and their tendencies towards the female entity to the environment and consequently builds up to show the adverse effect that it develops. The research paper will use several sources for its basis and clear elaboration of the thesis. The online scholarly articles are a useful database. One such article is by Thiruvengadam who is a housewife who is an avid reader and scholar on the effects of male chauvinism (Thiruvengadam). In her article, women – the victims of male chauvinism, she describes the adverse effects that this practice has on women in the society as well as the family. Additionally, she describes the role that women should play in the eyes of chauvinistic man. This works well to reveal the view that women are limited in their potential to achieve greatness in their lives not by their own selves but by the communal thinking that is set upon them. The women that seem to work against this view are subjected to lots of prejudice and condemnation (Thirovengdam). Additionally, the book by Charles Winick, desexualization in American life, does well to elaborate on the progress that women have made in the fight against male chauvinism (Winick). The book does well to outline the advantages of empowered women in the community and as such works well as a source of this research paper. Surname 3 The timeline for the research paper will be as follows; the continuous and thorough research of the available literary works on the topic will in order to identify the gaps that lay in the knowledge and expertise in the field will take about two days. This period will also enable in the actual realization and development of the specifics of the plan and data results of the research. After this, one day will be used on the identification of the relevant agencies that are engaged in the research and development of the women empowerment agenda in order to find out the relevant information required. One day will be used in the development of the project goals by seeking advice and guidance from relevant peers and instructors. The next three days will be used to develop the draft for the proposal which will be followed by writing and rewriting the final draft ahead of the submission. Surname 4 Works Cited Gilman, P.
