Custom variables refer to a name-value pair tag which may be inserted in a tracking code
to enhance Google Analytics tracking. The custom variables are executed in varying ways
according to the website needs. In addition, custom variables allow the definition of additional
segments that apply to a visitor other than those offered by Google Analytics. The basic visitor
interaction structure breaks down the visitor’s manner of interaction with a site. According to the
model, the visitor intermingles with a site’s content for a given time duration, with the contact
being segmented into a hierarchy (Clifton, 2012). The model comprises of three levels which are
