Introduction
Animal ethics is a term used in the description of humans and animals relationships and
how humans should treat animals. Subject matters in animal ethics include animal welfare, animal
rights, speciesism, animal law, animal cognition, the moral status of animals that are not human,
wildlife conservation, human exceptionalism, theories of justice, history of animal use and the
concept of nonhuman personhood (Isacat, 2014).

Overview of subject matters in animal ethics
Animal rights
This is the idea in which some or all of the nonhuman animals have a right to their own
lives and that most basic interests accorded to them like avoidance of suffering should be given
consideration just like those of human beings. Advocates of this subject maintain that animals
should not be seen as property or used as research objects, food, entertainment, clothing or beasts
of burden.
