Method of Analysis: The height difference between the previous level and new level were found at each time interval. The standard deviation was found for the change in height at each time interval across trials with the same temperature set point. This standard deviation value shows the inconsistencies within the procedure and diffusion apparatus. By plotting the change in liquid height on the x-axis and change in time over change in liquid height (dt/dL) on the y-axis, the slope can be combined to calculate the diffusivity of the solution at the given temperature. This was done for acetone at 40°C and 50°C and ethanol at 40°C. Fuller’s diffusivity equation (Eq. 7) was used to calculate diffusivity values for these three trials. The actual diffusivity and calculated diffusivity were statistically compared to the experimental diffusivity of acetone at 40°C using an unequal variance t-test. The experimental diffusivity was calculated at each time interval by using the average change in length at the given interval. For acetone at 40°C and 50°C the average diffusivity was found and statistically compared using an unequal variance t-test. The ethanol diffusivity was compared to tabulated and calculated values with an unequal variance ttest. For all t-tests, 𝐻0 : 𝜇 = 𝜇0 and 𝐻𝑎 : 𝜇 ≠ 𝜇0 at a 95% confidence interval.
