Dried Blood
Collection and analysis of blood from a crime scene is very important. It is used as
evidence where the type and DNA is analyzed and matches made. There are two types of blood;
liquid and dried. Each having different protocols when collecting them. In this case, dried blood
is present on the scene. I would use envelope or paper bags to package the sample blood. Where
the blood is prominent (the floor), scraping will prove useful. Using a clean sharp object, the
blood is scraped off onto a clean paper packet. This method reduces the likelihood of
contamination than say, using an absorbent medium moistened in distilled water. Using tape to
lift blood stains that are scattered is a good course of action. Tapes help in collecting small
amounts of blood that may be present.
Handgun
Before handling the handgun, proper safety precautions must be adhered to. For instance,
there are protocols in place when handling a handgun as evidence. One should never move the
gun by using a pencil lifting it by its barrel or the trigger guard. This would be unsafe and there
