Definition.

Pharmacological.
Pharmacological comes from pharmacology which means the study of drugs, the
nature of their sources, and their properties. Pharmacology explains what drugs are and what
they do to the body. With regards to addiction, the role of pharmacological is to treat addictive
disorders that have developed over time. Its approach to substance treatment is evidence-based
i.e. it can be informed by the neurotransmitters that are affected by substance abuse. This
treatment is based on the characteristics of drugs that have been proved to be effective.
Neurological.
This describes the conditions that affect the central nervous system, which is
mainly composed of the spinal cord and the brain. The treatment approach for this disorder
mainly includes task shifting that distracts/diverts the thoughts of an addict by making the busy
or engaged. This is the easiest way of addressing the mental illness that has been affected by
substance abuse,
Physiological.
Physiological effects of drugs are severe emotional stress that influences the
normal bodily functioning of humans. Physiological treatments in relation to substance abuse
treatment by assessment/attendance, diet restrictions/guidelines, and medical consultation and
compliance. It is a safe, non-drug treatment to cure pain directly by reducing the amount of
physiological stress that is often caused by substance abuse addiction.

Psychological.
It is the use of a mind-altering substance to reduce/override the dependence on
another substance that is abused. It is an approach to recovery mainly by motivating an
addict/victim to embrace the change. It is through helping people to appreciate the cost benefits
of their adduction by motivating them. Once an addict has been motivated he/she has to be
pushed to take a step of changing. It entails the change of people’s feelings, thoughts and
