Aspects of Critical Thinking to Authors’ Approach of Determining Tradeoffs
Tradeoff involves deciding on fairly related or important alternatives available for a
particular issue. This comes after a person has evaluated all possible alternatives but the
remaining alternatives are relatively fair with almost equal or high importance on some elements.
Critical thinking is required in enabling one to make a good tradeoff between competing
alternatives. The author’s approach to determining tradeoff can be enhanced by incorporating
some aspects of critical thinking which include criteria, reasoning, respect for evidence and
having multiple points of view.
Having criteria for evaluating alternatives is an aspect of critical thinking and is essential
in determining tradeoffs. The criteria for evaluating the alternatives will ensure that the
objectives used to measure the alternatives are in line with the needs of the situation at hand.
