Glendale Community College A Midsummer Night Dream Performance PPT
Assignment: Each group is a theatre company seeking funding ($) to produce an original theatre concept of the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Obviously this is not real, but let’s pretend for the sake of the assignment.-You are to create an original theatre production concept for the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Choose an idea (your best) from your “Three Concepts” assignment!-You should create a name for your theatre company.-You should create an estimated budget (estimated cost) to mount your production.-You are to present your concept to me via video with audio. Each presentation must be at least 8-10 minutes in length but no more than 14 minutes. Give ample examples: Images (more is better), short audio or video clips, etc. that you can find online or show items you create yourselves to help describe your concept.Your concept must include all of the following (in no particular order) and be described in detail in your presentation:1. A description of the concept as a whole and how elements 2-11 work together. THIS IS NOT AN ADAPTION OF A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, BUT RATHER AN ORIGINAL CONCEPT OF THE EXISTING PLAY AS IT IS. 2. The time period/era: Describe it. If it is a fantasy or futuristic world, describe it in detail and show examples and/or "comps" (films, books, shows, plays, etc. that are similar).3. The tone of the production (silly, fantastic, dark, sad, comic, sarcastic, sad, cheerful, etc.). Tone is the attitude toward the subject and characters. Describe your concept’s tone.4. The central image: For example, in the Broadway musical The Lion King, Pride Rock is the central image. Describe yours. It could be something you use in your advertising.5. The main themes (such as love, class/status, gender, transformation, dreams, etc.). Describe.6. Color palette: 3 to 4 colors that the designers will use in the lighting, costumes, scenery and advertising. Describe in detail with specific examples.7. Costume ideas for at least two characters in the play. Describe in detail with specific examples.8. Prop list: Describe three major props in the play. Why these items?9. One set design plan: Describe in detail with specific examples. And tell us why you chose this?10. What type of theatre space (stage/theatre) is desired for your concept? And tell us why you chose this?11. Are there any special or unique aspects of your concept? Such as an all female/male cast, use of live animals, performed at night, nudity, etc. If so, describe it in detail. This is a group presentation. Each student will collaborate in their group equally. I will grade as a group and each individual. The due date for the group projects are noted on the class calendar and here.-No make-ups are allowed. You MUST send the video presentation by the due date in order to receive credit.-You can use PowerPoint, Prezi, projected images, props, handouts or whatever you wish. You may stand and speak to me using technology, act out scenes from the play, do a mix of methods, or create something original. It's up to you!SOME RULES TO REMEMBER FOR YOUR CONCEPT:* You cannot change the story or title of the play!* You cannot change the character names in the play! The only exception is if you use a language other than English (For example: Demetrius could be “Dimitri” if your concept is Russian or takes place in Russia).* You cannot change the dialogue! (If you choose to include some in your presentation).*You (each group/pair) must submit a one page concept report as a PDF which will include the group/company name, the group members’ names, and a brief description of the elements you describe in your presentation and submit it here! Each group may submit the same document for its members.*THIS IS NOT AN ADAPTION OF A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, BUT RATHER AN ORIGINAL CONCEPT OF THE EXISTING PLAY AS IT WAS WRITTEN. You CAN present an old play like this and set it in a different time and place. Theatre companies around the world do this all of the time. PreviousNext
