Overview

The 4th amendment of the US constitution does protect the people against any
unreasonable searches and seizures (Lemley, 2017). This is why police and other law
enforcement officers cannot search a person’s premises or take their things simply because they
feel like doing it or they dislike them. They must always have a good reason before they search
someone's home or office and seize things such as crime evidence or contraband. In the event of
violation of this amendment, any evidence that could possibly be drawn from that illegal seizure
or search is considered the “fruit of the poisonous tree” and it cannot be used against an
individual.
