DUE DATES: TREC Outline: Tuesday, Nov. 13th (typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pts.) Final Story: Thursday, Nov. 15th. Length: 1-1.5 pages (not counting the cover sheet and TREC outline) APA Format: Cover Sheet, Double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 pts, TREC Outline Story: Write a story on any topic, either fact or fiction. It can be serious, sarcastic, humorous, etc. Just use your imagination in your descriptions. Figures of Speech: In your story, you must use multiple examples of all four figures of speech we have been studying: simile, metaphor, personification, and hyperbole. Use as your models the stories we read: “Florida Journalism: It's a wild, wild life," "The Jacket,” and any student stories I read to you. . Best are the figures of speech that you make up yourself, instead of using common clichés we hear every day, such as “clever as a fox” or “haste makes waste." TREC Outline: Thesis: Includes the main theme of your story. For example, the stories we read were about wildlife and journalism and getting new clothes. Both theses pointed toward a problem in each situation: snakes, mother purchasing a new, disliked jacket. This will be your opening paragraph to set the scene, characters, and problem. In the journalist's story, it was his discovery of the problem of finding the snake on his desk. Reasons / Scenes and Examples: Whatever action is involved in your story, each "scene" should be a new reason and paragraph containing examples. Below is how the Florida snake story reasons and examples would fit a TREC outline: Reason 1/Scene 1: Sees snake and reacts First reaction of the journalist to the snake: seeing and confronting the snake, followed by examples/details of jumping out of his seat holding his keyboard and “hearing” the snake "talking” to him. Reason 2 / Scene 2: Journalist gets weapon/tongs, wrestles snake outside Examples / details of struggle Rev. 11/6/2018, 10/25/2017, 11/16/2016, 10/12/2015, Lynn A. Smith, PhD, Reading Specialist

the previous one, so she could pay for her mortgage.

Reason 2/ Scene 2: The business is going well, but Jess needs to do more to make enough to
cover her mortgage. She uses the dress. Example: She had to do something different. The

customers.
