Discussion Board: Just In Time Systems

Key Term Selection
The key term selected for this discussion board is Just -In- Time Systems (JIT). I am
interested in this term because I would like to know how companies make use of JIT to eliminate
wastes in productions. Also, I am eager to learn how JIT is used in the manufacturing and
production of goods to be supplied promptly. Most times, companies implement the use of JIT to
save on production cost and create a strong bond between an organization and consumers. I am
keen to learn and understand the pros and cons associated with the use of JIT in companies.
Key Term Explanation
The Just -In -Time Systems (JIT) was invented in Japan and later adopted by Toyota and
a couple of other manufacturing companies in Japan. During the WWII, the U.S car
manufacturing industry had overtaken the Japanese manufacturing industry, and as a result, JIT
was created to enhance the production and distribution process in manufacturing firms (Garai,
2011). Satterlee (2014) determines that Just -In -Time Systems sole purpose was to concentrate
on eradicating wastes as well as reducing warehouse inventories. Other than eliminating wastes
and abuse, JIT reduces holding costs. JIT is committed to solving problems in companies by
setting up a good manufacturing organization. JIT makes use of inventory controls which ensures
the safety of records and ease of access to the records at any given time.
