Chapter 11: exploring the relationship between contemporary immigration and crime
control policies
What is the thesis statement? What is the main idea the author is making?
The chapter centers its focus on the United States immigration policy design for
preventing and dealing with dangerous immigration population. The main idea of the author is to
portray the dangers of immigration that threaten the national safety and the need for policies to
control and manage such threats.
What are the main arguments?
The main argument of the author in this particular chapter is that immigration is the
major cause of safety threats in the United States and development of appropriate policies for
immigration is the only way to thwart the drawbacks resulting from the immigrating population.
What is the evidence? Is it empirical data? Is it just an opinion? Does it have a
theoretical foundation? Is there any qualitative or quantitative evidence?
The author entirely applies qualitative evidence to support his discourse for threats of
immigration to national safety by using examples such the 9/11 attack that purely emanated from
the immigration population. The author also uses theoretical foundations such as the crime
control model and Empirical evidence which is largely entailed in the crime control model to
support his argument.
